General product safety covers everything. Above it sit specific regimes for specific categories, and those are where the technicality concentrates and the penalties are real.
What brings a product into one of these regimes is not always obvious, and a product can sit in more than one at the same time. These are the ones we work with most.
Medical devices
The EU MDR, the UK MDR, the US FDA. Classification decides everything that follows. Among the most demanding regimes there is, and the one where getting it wrong has the gravest consequences.
Toys
Chemical and mechanical requirements that are strict, age grading, and mandatory testing. A product intended for adults but attractive to children can be caught.
Electrical and electronic equipment
Safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and restricted substances. Almost every product with a plug, a battery or a radio in it.
Machinery
Its own regime in the European Union, with marking, documentation and, for higher-risk categories, third party involvement.
Personal protective equipment
Certified, and rated by category according to how severe the risk is.
Cosmetics
A responsible person established in the market, a product information file, notification before sale.
Food contact materials
Migration limits, and a declaration of compliance that travels with the goods.
Construction products and chemicals
Performance declarations and marking for construction products; REACH and its equivalents for substances.
How we help
We tell you which regime your product falls into, what it demands, what evidence is needed, and what it will cost to satisfy – before you commit to the order rather than after.
